Satsume Town, part of Ōda City, is cradled in the bosom of Mount Sanbe. Weave your way through the mountains and you'll soon spot Kogominosato.
The house, built more than 150 years ago, has had a few improvements to make it even more comfortable, but the calming exterior remains untouched, and the hearth and traditional Japanese kamado stove all add to its charm. For a day, you can experience traditional farm life that has remained unchanged since the olden days. Here, children and adults alike can forget the stresses of daily life, spending time experiencing the joys of living with nature.

Experience the changing seasons, hear the call of the kajika frogs, the sound of the wind, and gaze up time and time again at the starry night sky without tiring of it... These are the kind of first-rate country experiences on offer here.

Cooking with Natural Ingredients Workshop

detail

Experience category Nature Experiences/Culinary Experiences
Period All year round
Suitable age group Nothing
Number of participants 1 to 20 people
Time required Around 2 hours
Fee 2,500 yen / person
Things to bring Apron
Necessity of reservation Reservations required (Booking is possible via telephone up to 3 days before the event)
Experience content The workshop involves making foodstuffs (konnyaku and tofu) using only ingredients grown in Satsume's lush natural environs.

Konnyaku
What's that? What are we making?
Dark brown konnyaku potatoes certainly pique children's curiosity. Making konnyaku from potatoes is an endless delight for children. Chopping and mixing, and with the help from adults along the way – you end up with konnyaku with an unforgettable taste.

Tofu
The tofu made here is heavy, sweet, and rich with the flavor of soy beans, just like the old days.
In this workshop you'll produce tofu that tastes like no other – tofu that makes you fully aware of the fact it's made from soy beans. We recommend eating the tofu just like that, but if you add a pinch of salt, it brings out the sweetness even more.

Suitable age group Nothing
Number of participants 1 to 20 people

Fee 2,500 yen / person
Things to bring Apron
Necessity of reservation Reservations required (Booking is possible via telephone up to 3 days before the event)
Experience content Gather round the table and enjoy local cuisine that has been eaten for generations, and prepared using only local ingredients. Soup made with homemade tofu and miso paste, wild mountain vegetable dishes, simmered vegetables, and more – the menu may not normally appeal to children, but eating dishes they've helped prepare in the great outdoors after playing together? That's another thing entirely.
Even picky eaters and kids who don't eat much end up asking for seconds! It's like the old saying, "hunger is the best seasoning"!

Experience the delight of eating fresh seasonal produce after a hard day's work, enjoying the food you've made as a team, sharing the happiness together.

Experience content If you're interested in farming, but there are no fields where you live, or even if there are but you don't have time to commit throughout the year, why don't you try our paddy field owner experience?

We're currently accepting invitations for paddy oweners in Kogominosato.
Work mainly involves rice planting in the spring, maintenance in the summer, and harvest in the fall. And of course, you're free to drop by your field at any time you like and get to work.
Everything is carefully explained by farming experts, so even absolute beginners can become paddy field owners.
One section produces roughly 60kg of rice.

We are currently exploring the option of non-chemical farming methods by introducing ducks into the paddies.
The delight of harvesting rice grown in cool, clear water that is home to fish and fireflies, and then hung out to dry makes for a truly delicious treat.
